I love my sents. Funny how about after the 4th time killing someone with one they tell me 'sents are for noobs'. I love it.

Then you have guys like Dark that just go invisible. :)

How about a teleport upgrade which would work like ons where you could set up team sents and then use them as teleporters?

PS- Also, if you could make the defensive shield allow outgoing weapons fire that would make it more useful. Right now it blocks outgoing and incoming. If it allowed friendly fire to pass through it would be great.

Sounds like great ideas to me.  Have the sentinel teleporter beacon upgrade become an image of the sentinel tripod, long vertical glass rod with a flashing light on top, and the light being your team color. Of course you will need to have a 2nd one somewhere on the map for you to teleport to, so it will involve teamwork, or being allowed to have more than one sentinel per person. And I am assuming you can teleport while carrying the flag, otherwise it wouldn't be of much use.

You're right about the defensive shield also.  I find it of no use now and never use it.

sounds good but you should also be able to make it invisible. it's the perfect teamwork enhancement to the sent. you could have them specify the linked sent when they upgrade theirs and leave it at that or like i said, have it work like ons where if you have 3 or more you go to a map and choose your destination. yes i envision taking the flag through it.

The shield upgrade is broken. It has never worked quite right, and took me forever to get it to a somewhat working state it is in now.  Vaptor took a stab at fixing at what I managed to start, but what you see now is probably what you are going to get.

The team beacon is a cool idea.  But for 2K4 you will probably not see it happen.

Not sure if everybody is aware of this, but the UT2K4 community is going through the death march.  Ever since 2K7 was announced, players have slowly been disappearing.  I suspect when summer finally arrives, that will be the last of it, and full servers will be rare.

Because of 2K7, there really is no point in any further development for UT2K4.  So you will most likely now see anything new for sentinelsm NoSkilz weapons or WS maps.  Both mutators are pretty good as is, and I just simply don't have the time to spend on something that is going to die anyway.  Yes you might have your arguments about how UT99 is still alive.  Well, my answer is simple.  I took down our UT99 server about a year ago, and I have yet to recieve a request to put it back up.  Its dead.

Well, I hope this answers your questions.  To everybody who has enjoyed the NoSkilz weapons thank-you.  They really are fun.  I hope to port them over to 2K7 when it comes out.

p.s. I am not sure if any of you know this, but my brother has been integral in helping me withthe NoSkilz, Sentinels, and maps.  He is the dude who I would turn to when I couldn't figure things out.  So, I just wanted to say thanks to him for helping us all out.

are you still going to hold off on any additional mods/mutator development?

If so, would you consider allowing our {SAP} Clan the privilege of pursuing further development of the ut2004 sentinels? Of course you would retain all rights to the code and would have access to further developments in case you would want to incorporate them into the ut2007 version.

I have been so busy lately, I haven't had any time to even play UT.

To clarify I don't own the code, and I didn't create the sentinels.  I was asked to make some modifications for the sws clan a couple of years back,  I spent a considerable amount of time decompiling them just to get the source, and have just been adding things to it here and there.  I typically don't give out source code, its not a selfish thing, but it is more of a quality thing.  We don't really want a million different versions out there.  Plus we all know what a pain a version mismatch in the cache can be.  I have had a few requests for the code, but condition #1 (see below) is usually the stopping point.

I have no problems giving out the source for the sentinels, but of course there are conditions....  So here they are.  If you can't meet these conditions, sorry no exceptions.

1. You must have prior UT mutator/mod building experience. (UT99, 2K3 or 2K4).  The code for the sentinels is rather large and convoluted at best, and most certainly not a place to be if you are attempting this for the first time.  Yes you might have programming experience, but type of thing goes way beyond knowing how to program in c, etc.  The reason why this is important is one small change can have a detrimental effect on the sentinels, and if I do give the code out there are UT specific things that you need to know, otherwise you probably won't get very far.  So, in order to satisfy this condition, provide me with some examples of your work.  I just want to see that you do have an idea of whats going on.  Trust me, you don't want to get into the sentinels as your first attempt.

2. You must rename the code package to something other than RC.  I don't want any rogue RC releases out there.  SentinelsSAP would be ok. However if you want to add to my RC release, then send me the code/changes and I will see what I can do to add it to the next release.

3. You agree not to bug me with anything to do with the Sentinels.  If you don't know how to do something, the only advice I will offer is to try this site: www.google.com.

4. If you do make something cool, I would like to be able to include various elements, ideas  in any future versions I might have.  Full credit will go to you of course.  I have my own ideas for making the sentinels better, and maybe someday when I get bored, I will do some more development on them, but right now that doesn't look like it is going to happen.  This doesn't mean that I will include what you do, it just means that I do have the choice to incorporate what you have done.

5. You keep the original readme.txt file included with your version, and have this same stipulation for any future versions.  This way all authors get credit for their contributions to the sentinels.

Well, sorry to have so many rules/conditions I just simply don't have the time right now to do much to help out with UT (except for writing this post it would seem), but I also want to make sure you are not wasting your time either.
