Sentinels and Bots Don't Mix Well
Hello!

YesFirst off, thanks so much for a fantastic mutator. It's provided me and the players of my servers with endless hours of fun.

StormBut there's one problem: the bots spam the server so bad with their Sentinels that it lags everyone's framerate and they leave the server. Is there any way to prevent the bots from using the Sentinels?

Big SmileMy players and I would be so grateful if Robster Craws and friends could make this happen for us!

Hey!

Glad you like the sentinels ...  Here are a couple of things you can do to help eliminate the lag...

1. Reduce the number of sentinels per player.
2. Reduce the number of sentinels per team
3. Disable some of the laggy upgrades.  (Vortex and Rocket Launcher 2)
4. Upgrade your server to handle
5. Upgrade your computer
6. Reduce the number of players on your server.

Thanks for your reply. I've actually done all those things already.

1. I reduced the number of sentinels per player from 3 to 1.

2. Reduced the number of sentinels per team from 14 to 6.

3. I never had the Vortex or Rocket Launcher 2 since they are SO powerful....a little too powerful for ONS I think LOL.

4. I just recently upgraded my server and I'm so happy about it! :) Everyone's pings are so much lower now.

5. It's a rented computer in a datacenter.

6. I reduced the number of players on my server from 16 to 10, and reduced the bots down to 6 total.

All these things have definately helped with the framerate lag. I understand you would have to rework the code of the sentinels to make the bots not use the sentinels, so I wouldn't expect you to bend over backwards just for lil ole me Stick out tongue You gave me great suggestions that did help tremendously.

If you think you'll ever come out with a new version of the Sentinels - and I REALLY REALLY CANT WAIT! - I hope you'll consider my suggestion about having an option to prevent the bots from using the sentinels, or control how many sentinels the bots get.

Are others having framerate problems on your server as well?
If not, it just might be your computer.  You might want to try upgrading your system (probably unfeasable), or some combination of the following:
1. Changing some of the effect settings
2. Reducing the resolution
3. Reducing the number of colors.

I am really not developing much anymore.   But what you might want to do is also look for a mutator out there that allows you to control the behaviour of the bots, and the weapons they use.

I personally am not having the framerate problem - it's the players on my server that complain about it.

But I think the bigger issue is just that all the bots use the max number of sentinels they're allowed, which becomes pretty crowded. It would be nice if bots couldn't even use the sentinels, so I'll take your suggestion and see if there's a tool out there to control bot behavior.

That's too bad you're not developing as much as you used to! But if you come up with a new version, my server will be the first place to have them :)
